Vallley Roots Brand + Packaging Design
The concept behind Valley Roots was to create a farm-to-table type restaurant that also acted as a country store, providing local goods and produce to the heart of Winchester’s bustling downtown. The original model for Valley Roots took ideas from other country stores and farm-to-table restaurants around the Shenandoah Valley such as the Locke Store in Millwood, VA and Christina’s Cafe in Strasburg, VA. The Locke Store acts as both a small bistro and a country store, featuring a wide array of goods including fresh eggs and milk, fresh produce, local craft beers and ciders, and homemade bakery goods. Christina’s Cafe is mostly restaurant, with a small bakery in the front. Along the walls are pieces of work being sold by local artists. Christina’s menu features local chicken, pork, and beef, as well as eggs for their breakfast menu. These two businesses, although within a relatively small distance from Winchester, are still very small and the locations are fairly hidden. I question why there are no places of business within the city of Winchester that represent what the rural Shenandoah Valley can offer? Valley Roots was thus created.
